New mother Kelly Clarkson dons black lacy frock to sing with her stepmother-in-law Reba McEntire in Nashville

It's been six months since she welcomed her first child, daughter River. And Kelly Clarkson displayed her post-baby body in a black lacy frock at Monday’s American Country Countdown Awards in Nashville.

The 32-year-old new mother joined her stepmother-in-law Reba McEntire as well as Miranda Lambert onstage the Music City Center.

The 59-year-old country diva was being honored with the first-ever Nash Icon Award at the ceremony.

Kelly became close with the flame-haired crooner seven years ago through her manager-turned husband Brandon Blackstock (who's Reba's stepson). The big-time belters co-headlined the 2 Worlds 2 Voices Tour in 2008, and Clarkson appeared on Reba's CW sitcom in 2007.  

Goodbye, Mrs Wolowitz: The Big Bang Theory's touching tribute to the late Carol Ann Susi

 The Big Bang Theory has paid tribute to one of its most important - if unseen - characters. On the first episode following the death of actress Carol Ann Susi, the hit comedy aired a goodbye card dedicated to the woman behind Mrs. Wolowitz. Carol Ann, who died of cancer on Tuesday at the age of 62, was never seen on the show, but her voice had been heard from off-screen since The Big Bang Theory began in 2007.

The tribute, featuring a photo of Carol Ann as its backdrop, read in part, 'Every time you spoke, we laughed.'

It ended by saying, 'You're in our hearts forever.'

Mrs. Debbie Wolowitz was the overbearing mother of one of the main characters, Howard (played by Simon Helberg).

She lived with her son and regularly called him for a wide variety of reasons.

Even after Howard married his beloved Bernadette (Melissa Rauch), Mrs. Wolowitz maintained her invisible presence.'In addition to her talent, Carol Ann was a constant source of joy and kindness to all. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family during this time, and we will miss her greatly,' read a statement released by the show's producers.

Although she was never seen during her eight-season run on The Big Bang Theory, Carol Ann's face was familiar to television audiences.

Her TV career began in 1974, with a recurring role on the thriller series, Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

Carol Ann then worked steadily in television over the next few decades, guest-starring in everything from Growing Pains to ER to Ugly Betty.

Some of her more notable roles came during this time as well, playing Carrie on two episodes of Seinfeld and Frannie on three episodes of Married... With Chidren.

Her film work was impressive, if not as extensive, and included a prominent role as Michael J. Fox's secretary (who constantly walks in on her boss as he is changing clothes) in the 1987 film, The Secret Of My Success. But it was as the disembodied voice of Mrs. Wolowitz that Carol Ann ended up finding her greatest fame.

The first episode of I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here! has kicked off and Gemma Collins has already had a meltdown. The bubbly TOWIE star was in tears in the helicopter before she even reached the camp and threatened to quit after ditching the chopper and struggling to find her campmates.
She is being joined in the jungle by Tinchy Stryer, Melanie Sykes, Michael Buerk, Craig Charles, Vicki Michelle, Carl Fogarty, Kendra Wilkinson, Jimmy Bullard and Nadia Forde.
Gemma's team had to spend their first night in the Celebrity Slammer while the others set about on a challenge to save them.
Carl has been the first star to be rescued from the prison and now doesn't have to live on porridge. But he did have to take part in the first Bushtucker Trial - Snakes in a Drain.
It's not long now until we see Gemma Collins have a break down before even getting to camp and the rest of the stars heading to the jungle.

Kristen Stewart sports an androgynous look with skinny black tie and swept-back pixie hairstyle while hanging out with friends in LA

It was a girls' night out, but Kristen Stewart wasn't afraid to ditch the glitz and the glamour to rock an androgynous style. And, man, did she pull it off well. The 24-year-old was enjoying some quality time with two girlfriends in LA on Saturday night, following an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction at the 18th Annual Hollywood Film Awards.
The Twilight star's strapless dress slipped while she was presenting during Friday's ceremony, while her ex-boyfriend Robert Pattinson looked on from the audience.She was left exposed for a few moments after taking to the stage to present Julianne Moore, 53, with the Hollywood Actress Award for her role in Still Alice.The actresses play mother and daughter in the new movie Still Alice. 

Perhaps Kristen learned her lesson and was determined not to ever let that happen again, hence choosing to stay very covered up in her buttoned-up white blouse, secured by a skinny black tie.

She added tight jeans, a denim jacket and black trainers to her androgynous style as she strolled the streets with her mates.

The actress also had a cap, but she took it off to reveal her cute pixie cut. 

Kristen's swagger is somewhat reminiscent of the look she assumed for Jenny Lewis's music video for her track, Just One Of The Guys, which debuted over the summer. 

She featured along side Anne Hathaway - also clad in drag - and they danced around in tracksuits, wigs, caps and with mustaches stuck on their pretty faces. 

Brie Larson also got in on the action, going from girly to grungy for her transformation in the clip. 

Meanwhile, Kristen recently told USA Today that she was planning on taking a break from acting after starring in 10 films over the past four years.

The Adventureland star planned to pursue other creative art forms during her self-imposed hiatus.

'I'm going to buy a live-work space in downtown LA and I'm going to make some things with my hands,' she said while adding that she writes 'all the time'.

Kristen still has five movies scheduled for release over the next 12 months. 

Producers defended Lifetime's Aaliyah biopic before it aired

Lifetime's biopic "Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B" has been controversial since its inception, with the late singer's family expressing their disapproval of the project and withholding rights to her songs.Since its debut on Saturday night, many critics, including Aaliyah's former mentor and music producer Timbaland, who is depicted in the film, responded with outrage.

Timbaland took to Instagram last night and this morning, to air his grievances with the film, which chronicles the untimely death of R&B star Aaliyah Haughton, who died in 2011 — at the height of her stardom — in a plane crash in the Bahamas. The film is based on the biography "Aaliyah: More than a Woman" by former Time music editor Christopher John Farley. "A lotta people keep asking me if I'm watching that (expletive)," Timbaland said in a video posted to Instagram. "Evidently not. No way. Not Timbo."

He continued to criticize the film throughout the night. "This is why people should never remake movies. (Expletive) happens. Now you have to deal with the consequences," Timbaland said in another video.

Timbaland and Missy Elliott worked closely with Aaliyah, including on her second album, "One In A Million," which they produced. It sold 8 million copies worldwide.

In a third message, seemingly directed at the film's executive producers — Howard Braunstein, Debra Martin Chase and Wendy Williams — the 42-year-old said "they will feel my wrath tomorrow morning."

He made good on his promise today, posting several memes on Instagram mocking the Lifetime production and those affiliated with it. One meme called out talk show host Williams specifically. It reads: "Wendy Williams you know you (expletive) up right?"

Williams, in a recent interview with NJ Advance Media, said Aaliyah's story was one that needed to be told.

"The family doesn't want the story to be told but we're doing it anyway. It's not told in a seedy tasteless way," Williams said. Aaliyah's family members have said they believe her story should be told on a larger stage.

Williams said she was offered the role of co-executive producer after being critical of the project on a "Hot Topics" segment of "The Wendy Williams Show."

"In my opinion, we did a great job telling the story that the family was scared to put out there," Williams said.

Not everyone agrees. Like Timbaland, many fans of the singer have expressed their disappointment with the film on social media, accusing Lifetime of romanticizing Aaliyah's relationship with R. Kelly, whom she illegally married when she was 15 and Kelly was 27. Fans also took issue with the film's casting. Disney star Zendaya Coleman was originally cast in the title role, but dropped out in June. (She would later say she didn't feel like the film "was all the way there.") Coleman was replaced by Alexandra Shipp. Chattrisse Dolabaille and Izaak Smith, who portrayed Aaliyah's mentors, Missy Elliott and Timbaland, also were criticized as being too thin and light in complexion.

"My people have a problem with complexion," Williams said in a recent interview with NJ Advance Media of the early casting issues that plagued the production. Williams said she was more concerned with the acting abilities of those cast than she was with how closely they resembled the real life characters.

It's unlikely the talk show queen, a New Jersey native and Livingston resident, will respond to her critics.

"I do not do my own Twittering and Facebooking and stuff," Williams told NJ Advance Media. "Because I do have a slick mouth and I would probably jump on social media and sit there in the house blogging back and cursing people out and everything. But I wouldn't even know how to Facebook and guess what? It's better that way."

Anne Hathaway Swaps Vegan Diet For High Protein Paleo-Style Plan, Apologizes To PETA

Anne Hathaway admits that she’s embarrassed to confess her recent diet shift. But after picking at plates of garbanzo beans topped with tofu in an attempt to stay true to her vegan diet, Hathaway increasingly felt fatigued while filming Interstellar, she told the Insider. As a result, Anne shifted to a Paleo-style high protein diet and happily gobbled up animal protein ranging from poultry to fish.
Apologizing to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Hathaway revealed what prompted her to end her plant-based plan. It occurred while she was filming a water scene that required high levels of endurance and energy.

"Anne Hathaway" said that “I fell off so hard… So you imagine what that’s like — what it’s like running through water and then you wear a 40-pound suit on top of it, so for me it was intense. I was facing my life, I don’t know how many days in a row of, like, garbanzo beans on a plate.”

To experiment with a change in diet, Anne decided to see if eating animal protein helped. And once she started a Paleo-style low carb diet and fueled her body with non-vegan foods such as fish, Hathaway had no desire to go back, she told Harper’s Bazaar.
Anne made the confession over a plate of eggs and sausage, which she ate with gusto. However, Hathaway emphasized that she stayed on her vegan diet until the Interstellar shoot in Iceland, which required that she wear a 40-pound space suit.
“I just didn’t feel good or healthy, not strong,” she said of her vegan diet days.
After her initial non-vegan meal of fish in a Reykjavík restaurant, Anne said that she felt the difference immediately.

Anne isn’t the only celebrity following a Paleo-style high protein low carb diet. As the Inquisitr revealed, Snooki also has chosen caveman cuisine for her pre-wedding weight loss.
In accordance with Paleo diet guidelines, Snooki avoids bread, pasta, cereal, processed foods, and anything containing sugar. Instead, Nicole focuses on consuming protein, non-starchy vegetables, and some fruit.
“I am eating lots of greens, a lot of grilled chicken, salad and some fruits,” she noted.
But it’s not just diet that Snooki and Anne have in common. Both have received some negative feedback as a result of their outspoken views. And while Snooki has maintained her self-esteem successfully, Hathaway only recently learned to deal more successfully with her haters, she told Ellen DeGeneres. As she notes in the video below, however, it has not been easy.

A miscarriage is not a stillbirth, and this interviewer should have learned the difference before he interviewed Lily Allen. his week, pop singer Lily Allen appeared on the Jonathan Ross show and was asked about losing her first child with husband Sam Cooper, a son, who was stillborn in 2010 when the singer was six months pregnant. “It was the most unfortunate thing that could ever happen,” said an emotional Lily as Jonathon Ross looked flustered and uncomfortable. 

We must talk more about pregnancy loss … but talk with compassion

I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to discuss something so anguishing, so completely unfathomable to anyone but those who have been through the same thing, on global television. Lily looked tense and jumpy, as anyone would when they are trying to keep their composure but sobbing inside. To an extent I also feel for interviewer Jonathan Ross, who is clearly dreading the moment he must raise the topic. Jonathan and Lily should both be applauded for talking about pregnancy loss, however I feel Jonathan could have made the conversation a little easier for Lily with a few simple changes to his language and questioning.

A stillbirth is not a miscarriage

He began, for example, by referring to Lily’s loss – at six months gestation – as a ‘miscarriage’. “Stillbirth,” she corrects him curtly. Although the pain of losing a child at any stage of a pregnancy is an equal agony, there is a distinction and it’s an important one. In the UK, where Lily is from, a stillbirth is defined as a baby who dies in the womb after 24 weeks. In Australia the definition begins at 20 weeks. Lily held her son in her arms after he was born. The very least a professional interviewer could do before probing into such a painful topic is to understand the reality of what Lily faced and describe it correctly.

It is equally painful whether you’re a celebrity or not

He then goes on to suggest that the process must have been particularly painful for Lily as she lived through the event in the public eye. “I think it’s difficult for anybody regardless of what world they live in,” Lily counters. She’s absolutely right. She lost her baby boy, a baby boy who she will never see grow up, take his first steps, go to school. That was front of her mind both then and now. Sure, it wouldn’t have helped to have the world talking about it, but I doubt she cared much either way. Her grief would – and would still be – the same universal, human grief that any mother in her situation would endure. I don’t suppose she was reading too many newspapers.

New children don’t take away the loss

Jonathan rounds off the topic by saying, “And the fact that you have two lovely kids now … what a lovely thing,” to which Lily nods and smiles. For one awful moment there I thought he was going to say “… which must make it easier,” or “… which must help ease the pain.” Lily now has two daughters, Ethel and Marnie, with husband Sam Cooper.

It’s not easy for people who haven’t been through the loss of a child to know what to say to a mother who has, a mother who will grieve for the rest of her days. But the least we can do is try, certainly if we’re about to interview them on television. A stillbirth is not the same as a miscarriage. A stillborn baby has a gender, and often a name. (Lily has previously told a reporter that her family keeps a small stone in their back garden with her little boy’s name on it). And no later child – although equally loved and cherished – can ever ‘replace’ a baby taken from the earth too soon.

Perhaps when pregnancy loss becomes less of a taboo subject than it is today we will be more comfortable with comforting a grieving mother and more aware of how we can honour and respect her loss.

What not to say to a parent who has suffered a pregnancy loss

Do you know someone who has suffered a pregnancy loss? Here are some tips from miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death support group SANDS about what not to say and do to bereaved parents, and how you can help instead:

• Don’t avoid them because you simply don’t know what to say. Instead tell the parents that you don’t know what to say. Often there is nothing to say and being there is what is important.
• Don’t use clichés like “You can have another baby”, “At least you already have children”, “It’s for the best”, “Everything happens for a reason” or “It was God’s will”. These comments deny the life and individuality of their baby and can seem thoughtless and hurtful.
• Don’t say “I know how you feel”. Unless you also have lost a baby you will have no idea how they are feeling. Even if you have experienced a similar loss you still won’t know exactly how they feel as every circumstance is different.
• Don’t judge their feelings. Bereaved parents have enough to cope with without having to justify the way they are feeling and reacting. They need to know that you accept them just the way they are.
• Don’t avoid the subject. They are already upset, so talking about their baby is unlikely to upset them more. Instead, you are allowing them to express their pain. Tears will probably be shed as their baby will be constantly on their mind, but it is okay for them to cry, and for you to cry with them.
• Don’t offer to put away the baby’s things. This is something most parents will want and need to do themselves when they feel ready. There is no rush to do this and it is part of saying goodbye.

Jennifer Lawrence Talks Mockingjay Kiss, Solange Gets Hitched & More Weekend News

Jennifer Lawrence certainly a considerate one – or so she thinks. Sure, she ate a sandwich and then didn't brush her teeth before filming a big kiss with costar Liam Hemsworth, but, she said Saturday at a press conference for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, "I gave him fair warning." Not according to her scene partner. As Hemsworth told Jimmy Fallon earlier, "Any time I had to kiss Jennifer was pretty uncomfortable. When you look at it on the outside it looks like a great picture. She's one of my best friends. I love her. But if we had a kissing scene, she would make a point of eating garlic or tuna fish or something that was disgusting."

All kidding aside, the Oscar winner does credit Hemsworth with teaching her to have more of a backbone.

"I am a wimp about standing up for myself," the 24-year-old actress told PEOPLE at the press conference in Manhattan, saying Hemsworth "taught me how to stand up for myself," she said. "I would always be like, 'Please like me! Please like me!' "

"Maybe not with this movie," she joked. "Not since Catching Fire.

"But there were times when I was really bad about that," Lawrence continued. "It's my biggest weakness – with negotiating, or even with people. Liam is always fair, he is always kind, he is always strong. He's teaching me to toughen up a little bit and it's important. I need that."

While filming the Hunger Games movies over the years, she said she grew particularly close to both Josh Hutcherson, 22, and Hemsworth, 24.

Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr are no longer. A rep for Bloom exclusively confirms the breakup. “In a joint statement, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr have announced that they have been amicably separated for the past few months,” the rep said in a statement. “After six years together, they have recently decided to formalize their separation.” The statement continued, “Despite this being the end of their marriage, they love, support and respect each other as both parents of their son and as family.” The 36-year-old British actor and the 30-year-old Australian Victoria’s Secret model began dating in 2007. They were married in July 2010 after announcing their engagment just a month beforehand.

"When I saw Orlando on Broadway in Romeo and Juliet, I was blown away," Kerr said in the November issue of Cosmopolitan. "For someone to be able to learn all that and hold the energy to do it every day, six days a week—I have so much respect for him. We don't run lines though. We keep that very separate. That would be like me asking him to teach me how to catwalk."

 Bloom recently put his Hollywood Hills home on the market for $4.5 million. He had been renting it out for $16,500 a month while he and the family were living in NYC.

MTV star Diem Brown dies at 32

Diem Brown hated to lose. She had an irreverent sense of humor. She loved to dance. More than anything, she never wanted to be seen as a quitter. All of those qualities were on display in the last days before her death on Friday at age 32, a time during which she fought to reconcile her devastating cancer diagnosis with her unyielding will to live. "We kept telling her, 'This is not giving up. You have fought enough,' " says her close friend Julie Rotondi. When there were no further treatment options available to the MTV Challenge star Thursday, she worried that her fans would see it as a sign of defeat.

"It wasn't a sign of weakness," says Rotondi. "It wasn't about giving up. In the end, it wasn't like, 'Do you want to keep fighting?' In the end, there is nothing they can do. It just became so aggressive, so fast. The cancer was just multiplying at such an aggressive rate that nothing could keep up. Any treatment that could have maybe prolonged [her life] for a week or two and it would have been a horrible, horrible ending."

Instead, her final hours were spent in the company of friends and family. Yesterday, she and her close friend Alicia Quarles prayed together alongside pastors from Hillsong Church. "She asked me to get her into prayer position," says Quarles. "That girl got on her knees and we prayed. She asked me to pray for peace."

Although she was in pain and there were "moments of suffering," over the past 48 hours, says Rotondi, Brown held on through Thursday night even when doctors said she wouldn't. "She was defying everything they were saying," says Rotondi. "They were completely amazed to see her make it through the night. It was literally a miracle."During that time, loved ones held her hand and alternated between remembering her powerful legacy – including her medical support registry, MedGift – and her playful humor. We talked about how she's affected so many people, then we would switch it over to all the funny stories about her," says Rotondi. "Still to the end, she was putting in her two cents. "It was like a very sad celebration," adds Rotondi.

When the former PEOPLE.com blogger took a turn for the worse Friday morning, "she started to struggle again," says Rotondi.With her beloved sister Megan stuck in traffic, she held on as long as she could, surrounded by her father, brother and her father's fiancée. A priest led the serenity prayer, and she died within minutes of Megan's arrival.

"Diem Brown was very peaceful when she passed," says Rotondi.

Ultimately, "she went surrounded by people she loved, her rosaries, pictures of her friends," says Quarles, a correspondent for E! News. "It's a beautiful day out. She fought to the end. And that's how she would want to be remembered. She's a fighter."

Soon after her death at 10:22 a.m. – the very same time she was born on June 12, 1982 – the hospital's fire alarm went off.

"There were strobe lights, and it was so loud – like a dance club," says Rotondi. "All of our hearts stopped. It was classic Diem. She was up there having her dance off. It could not have been more fitting. It was like, 'Yep. She did that.' "

“I started to write an apology, but I don’t have anything to say I’m sorry for.” That’s from Jennifer Lawrence, who in this month’s Vanity Fair is giving her first public comments about having her cell phone hacked and her private nude photos distributed all across the internet. The 24-year-old star makes no apology for taking the photos, which were always meant for private use and never to be shown to the public.
Any couple who has dated across states and continents can relate to why she took the pictures in the first place. “I was in a loving, healthy, great relationship for four years,” she said. “It was long distance, and either your boyfriend is going to look at porn or he’s going to look at you.”
Lawrence rightly believes that her being a celebrity in no way makes her fair game for people to just do whatever they want and wreak havoc on her private life:

“Just because I’m a public figure, just because I’m an actress, does not mean that I asked for this. It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It’s my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can’t believe that we even live in that kind of world.”

She also has some strong words of condemnation for the act itself, and about the way the law handles incidents such as these:

“It is not a scandal. It is a sex crime. It is a sexual violation. It’s disgusting. The law needs to be changed, and we need to change. That’s why these Web sites are responsible. Just the fact that somebody can be sexually exploited and violated, and the first thought that crosses somebody’s mind is to make a profit from it.”

You have to say though, J-Law deserves a round of applause for her clarity and willingness to come out firing when it would be so easy for her to just apologize and hide.

Chelsea Handler Stands Up for Freed Nipples

Chelsea Handler got into a war of words with the popular photo sharing platform Instagram on Thursday night, saying that the app’s policies about user content are sexist. The feud began when Handler posted a photo of herself mocking an iconic photo of Russian President Vladimir Putin sitting shirtless atop a horse. In Handler’s version, the comic staged a shot just like Putin’s, featuring her own image, sitting on a horse, shirtless, with the caption “Anything a man can do, a woman has the right to do better. #kremlin.”

The photo – in which Handler’s nipples were exposed – remained on Instagram for about 30 minutes before administrators removed it, sending Handler a message saying her post was pulled from the app for violating the social media platform’s community guidelines.

 Chelsea Handler pushed Americans forward in our struggle to get over hang-ups about exposed female nipples on Thursday night. On Instagram, Handler posted a photo of herself parodying Russian president Vladimir Putin's famous topless horse-riding photo. Instagram, not appreciating the hard work that had to have gone into getting Handler on a horse with her boobs out, took the picture down. Handler protested, putting up a screenshot of the "community guidelines" warning she got, writing, "If a man posts a photo of his nipples, it's ok, but not a woman? Are we in 1825?"

To be fair, I think that both men and women generally felt, in 1825, like they couldn't walk around with their nipples out. (A couple decades before is a different story, as see-through dresses were the rage in the very early 1800s. The more you know!) But her larger point stands: Men are so free to share their nipples with the world that world leaders have no problem letting everyone know what they've got going on under their suits and ties, but women's nipples are still treated like looking at them in public might blind you.

This discrepancy cannot be explained solely by the fact that women grow breasts as a secondary sex characteristic. After all, men aren't required to hide their secondary sex characteristics (beards) from the world in shame, though many parts of Brooklyn would be more aesthetically pleasing if they would. Not to mention that the parts of the chest area that are woman-only—the non-nipple parts—are not only acceptable but welcome in public spaces. Cleavage is one of the longest-standing popular accessories a woman can employ. The only part of a woman's chest that is considered too daring to display is the part that we share with men, the nipple. 

The taboo around the nipple encapsulates how ridiculous and contradictory our expectations about women, fashion, and sexuality really are. On the one hand, women are expected to be sexually appealing, even to the point of mutilating our feet to achieve that forever-sexy mystique. But we're also expected to avoid being too sexual, or else we're considered scandalous. The conflicting demands reduce us to counting inches of cloth and arbitrarily deciding that the nipple is a step too far. We'd all be better off in a more sensible society where women could walk around topless to look sexy but wearing 3-inch heels was considered over the top.

I'm not sure if Handler knew it, but she has come out in support of the Free the Nipple campaign, which supports public breast-feeding and fights against laws banning nipples in public. I don't have the ovaries myself to buck the system and walk around nipples out. But that's all the more reason I salute nipple warriors like Handler and Rihanna, who show it off and don't care what you think about it. Perhaps they will be trailblazers, creating a new world where women can wear whatever the hell they want without worrying about a "wardrobe malfunction."

Actress Misty Upham found dead after going missing

The family of Misty Upham confirmed Thursday, Oct. 16, that the actress is dead after a body was "found in a wooded area near Forest Ridge Drive in Auburn" that afternoon. A spokeswoman representing Upham's family told The Hollywood Reporter that, as suspected, the body belonged to the late August: Osage County actress. A family friend, Seattle-based filmmaker Tracy Rector, told THR that Upham's uncle Robert Upham organized a search party to look for the missing actress three days ago. The actress' father Charles Upham was the one to confirm her identity to police personnel. The Native American actress was understood to have suffered from bipolar disorder. Police Commander Steve Stocker said there was presently no evidence or information "to believe there is foul play." At the time of her disappearance, her father expressed concern that the actress was off her medication and may have been suicidal.

However, film-maker Tracy Rector - a long-time friend and spokesperson for the family, said: "The family has stated that, after seeing the body, they still do not feel that Misty Upham committed suicide." The body was found by a family member during a search of the area on Thursday. A purse with identification belonging to Upham was reportedly found at the scene. Ms Rector suggested there was hostility between local police and the Native American community who live on the Muckleshoot reservation, where Upham had been staying.

"The family wants everyone to know that the Auburn police did not help with this situation at all. They refused to help. When she disappeared on Oct. 5, the family knew something was seriously wrong - it was out of character for her to be gone so long without being in touch - and they repeatedly went to the police, who insisted there was no cause for concern," she told the Hollywood Reporter.

Actress Juliette Lewis tweeted that Upham "spoke out a lot against injustices within the Native community. And had known enemies. Police must do an investigation". Lewis later tweeted: "I can't sleep. Too much darkness. I feel so sad about Misty. I know she has more to say. And about how she died." Upham, who played the housekeeper in the 2013 film August: Osage County with Meryl Streep, bemoaned the fact that, as a Native American, she was typically cast as "a maid, or a prisoner". She once described herself as "painfully shy". "When I'm in front of the camera, or talking to people as an actress, and not as myself, it's like I become another person. Somehow possessed with somebody who is worth talking to. Because at home people could care less about what I have to say," she said. "So, so sad to hear this news — all our thoughts are with her family and with her beautiful spirit," Streep commented to the Hollywood Reporter, on learning of Upham's death.

Upham was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for her supporting role as new mum Lila in the 2008 film Frozen River, in which she co-starred with the Oscar-nominated actress Melissa Leo, who called her death "such a loss.". Animal charity Peta said: "The world will be a colder place without Misty's warm heart, and she will be sorely missed at PETA. She was extremely kind and cared deeply about animals; constantly calling for protection for the bears suffering in roadside zoos on tribal land, a call we will carry forward in her honour." According to her family, Upham moved to the Seattle area to help care for Mr Upham, who had suffered a stroke. She was reportedly staying on the Muckleshoot reservation, and was last seen walking from an apartment south of Seattle.
